Basil’s brother William Powell Riegels (Bill) was born at Station Bridge House in Harrogate.

Basil’s brother Ernest Rudolph Riegels (Rudy) was born in at Station Bridge House in Harrogate.

1901
Basil’s father, William Riegels, moves his family from Harrogate to Hampsthwaite.

1905
Basil Carl Riegels born at The Hollies in Hampsthwaite.

1907
Basil’s father, William Riegels dies aged 65.

1910 (approx.)
Basil moves with his Mother and brothers to 23 Harlow Moor Drive in Harrogate. His mother operates it as a Boarding House.

Basil attends Weston Council School in Cold Bath Road, Harrogate.

1914 (approx.)
Basil attends Weston College, Harrogate.

1922 ~ 1927
Teenage Basil is working for outfitters, WG Allen and Son in Harrogate.

1928 ~ 1929
Basil works at sea on The Apsleyhall as Mess Steward (assistant to the Cook).

1931
Basil working in Onitsha, Nigeria with his brothers.

1933
Basil is working at a Dry Cleaners in Harrogate.
Annie Buhlmann comes to England for a year (employed by Douglas and Thelma Drake).

1934
Basil visits Annie for a month in Germany.

1935
Annie comes for a second year in England (employed by friends of Douglas).
Basil’s Dry Cleaning firm transfers him to Manchester.

1936
Annie returns to England for a third time. Basil has found her a job in Manchester as a Governess with a family called Renee.
Basil moves from his digs and rents a house in the same street. His mother moves from Harrogate to live with him.
The house was too small. Basil and his mother move to a 3-story house in Stretford Road.
Annie quits her job. She moves in with Basil and they become engaged.

1937
October: Basil marries Annie Buhlmann.

1938
August: Basil’s daughter, Rita, is born.

1939
July/August: Basil and Annie visit Germany with their baby, Rita.
September: War declared with Germany.

Towards the end of the year, Basil leaves the dry cleaning firm and joins the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) as a Firefighter in Manchester.

1940
Basil’s daughter, Margaret, is born (Old Trafford, Manchester).

1941
Basil, his wife, his mother and two daughters leave Manchester and move to South Carlton, Lincoln.
Basil takes a job at Scampton airfield.
Basil takes a job at Hemswell airfield.

1942
Basil’s third daughter, Dorothy is born (South Carlton, Lincs).

1945
Basil’s mother, Annie, dies.

1947 (approx.)
Basil is headhunted by Lincoln company Wm Wright & Sons and stays with this company for the rest of his working life until retirement.

Basil’s parents-in-law leave Germany and come to live with the family at South Carlton.
